Joan Mckenna

As a member of the Ottawa Police Service, Joan has been fortunate to work with a wide variety of teams in different roles. Joan has a strong background in investigations, front line patrol and community engagement. Joan is a leader at OPS and has worked to tirelessly to make a difference in the community she lives and works. She has a passion for coaching and mentoring youth in the community. This unique skill set has assisted in further supporting the Somalia Hope Foundation. Joan has been a board member since November 2019.

Joan has always recognized the connection to education and learning as an opportunity for a young person to change the direction of their life. The Somalia Hope Academy has the ability to provide these prospects and life changing education to the students that attend their school. This has a direct impact in the community they live. When your basics needs are being met, learning is the key to opening doors for the individual, family and town they live in. It takes a village to raise a child.
