Girls Matter

Our School Program

Educating Girls

Gender equity is important to us. Girls make up nearly half of the student population at the Somali Hope Academy. The Somali Hope Foundation and our partners work tirelessly to create and sustain a safe, welcoming, supportive educational environment in which girls can thrive.

Education empowers girls by increasing their chances of staying healthy, pursuing work, and participating in society. Education has a trickle-down effect. Educating girls increases the likelihood of their children and family members leading healthy lives.

During the construction of the school, special attention was given to overall safety along with appropriate hygiene facilities. A volunteer on-site counselor provides support to the girls and helps ensure that each girl successfully completes her studies. Community support for girls also exists through campaigns such as “Let Girls Learn”, which helps reduce barriers to educating girls. Generations to come will benefit from these efforts and investments.
